Silent Auction

The Student Affairs Committee of the AOU, COS, and SCO are collecting donations for the Silent Auction being held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the 2014 Joint Meeting in Estes Park.

  • WHY? Donations and bids help make student activities including workshops, student-professional socials, and the quiz bowl possible.
  • WHAT? Good items include books and other media, field gadgetry, jewelry, art, services, gift certificates, and bird/nature paraphernalia.
  • WHERE? Bring your donations to the Assembly Hall on Tuesday, or mail items ahead of the meeting (Contact sac.silentauction@gmail.com for information.)
  • BIDDING. Remember to browse the variety of interesting and even rare items available at the auction tables Tuesday evening, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Bird Band Jam and Poetry Slam

For AOU/COS/SCO participants: Join us on Thursday night for the Bird Band Jam from 9 to 12. This will take place after the poster session. We have five great bands lined up including the Pickadees, The Mighty Sparrows, Finnders & Youngberg and more. Come dance to live music! Write a haiku about your research! Win a prize! Help our celebrity judges decide which of your colleagues is the best poet! The Friday morning plenary starts later so that we can all party until midnight on Thursday.

The $15 fee covers admission plus snacks and drinks. Due to the YMCA’s alcohol policy, you must have a ticket in advance. If you haven’t signed up yet, just log back in to your conference account and buy a ticket: https://www.birdmeetings.org/aoucossco2014/userlogon.asp. Your password is in the email that you received with the subject line “AOU/COS/SCO 2014, Estes Park, CO Registration Confirmation.” Tickets do not have to be purchased using the same credit card as your registration.

The 2014 Joint Meeting

The American Ornithologists’ Union, the Cooper Ornithological Society, and the Society of Canadian Ornithologists will hold their 2014 annual meetings in Estes Park, Colorado, from Tuesday through Saturday, 23-27 September 2014, preceded by council meetings and field trips.

Held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado, the meeting will feature five days of workshops, contributed scientific papers, posters, and invited speakers, including symposia that look at exciting new approaches and results in ornithology.

With a population of around 6000 people, Estes Park is a gem of a town tucked between amazing views of the Rocky Mountains. Downtown Estes Park is truly a unique place with plentiful shopping and dining opportunities located just a few short miles from the meeting venue.

If you are not staying at the YMCA there will be a daily fee required of $15 and if you will be attending any of the functions with meals, you will be expected to pay a fee for those meals. You will be contacted prior to the meeting about payment of those fees.
