Meeting History & Notes

Meeting History

Founded in 1883, the American Ornithologists' Union is the oldest and largest organization in the New World devoted to the scientific study of birds. The 2009 meeting in Philadelphia will mark the 126th anniversary of the AOU's founding and is the 127th slated meeting.

Our 2009 conference will be the 9th meeting of the AOU in Philadelphia since the Union's inception, second only to New York City. The last Philadelphia meeting was in 1942; there was also an additional meeting in the region, in 1976 meeting at Haverford College.
